The Nebraska State Museum in Morrill Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a mammoth statue to welcome guests, but scientists and engineers working in the tiny realm of atoms and quantum properties were the big attraction during a Sunday With a Scientist event in November. Emergent Quantum Materials and Technologies (EQUATE) representatives engaged 200 guests in activities featuring magnetics, electrical charges, and mysterious materials such as graphene – which helps set the stage for the youths’ future learning in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
